Weekend won the 2020 VMS Video of the Year award for his hit video “Blind Lights”.
The weekend at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 30) took Moon Person for Best Video of the Year, which was televised remotely due to the COVID-19 warning.
The 30-year-old singer, songwriter and record producer kept his statement of acceptance brief and used his platform to demand justice through the Black Lives Matter movement.
“It’s hard to celebrate, so I just want to say justice for Jacob Blake and justice for Brecona Taylor,” he said before leaving the stage. Weekend also dedicated his win to Blake and Taylor for the best R&B video.
Black is the 29-year-old unarmed black man who shot and killed a police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Aug. 23, as he walked away from an alleged domestic dispute. Taylor is a 26-year-old Black Emergency Medical Technician who was shot during a nose-police operation at his home in Louisville, Kentucky in March.
