Listen, iPad mini fans: your dream may come true.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via McMurray) claims in a new note that Apple is working on two new iPads: a 10.8-inch iPad and an 8.5- to 9-inch iPad mini. According to Kuo, the two devices are similar to Apple’s recently released iPhone AC, in the sense that they will have new chips combined with new bargains.
There are no other specific details about the upcoming iPads, but the screen sizes are quite large, as the current cheaper iPad has a 10.2-inch screen, while the iPad Mini has (and always has) a 7.9-inch display. This could mean that Apple will make the frames around the screen even smaller, probably smaller than the iPad Pro.
If this proves to be the case, it will be a big improvement for the iPad mini, whose form factor hasn’t really changed since the original launched in 2012. I’ve written for a long time, why I consider the iPad mini to be the best iPad, but here’s the brief: it’s practical , Light weight, portable, it is the right size for reading books and it is quite cheap. With a fresher design and a smaller frame, it would be even better.
In the case of the 10.2-inch iPad, getting a bigger screen won’t hurt in any way, though I don’t think it will be as big a deal as the iPad Mini.
The upcoming iPad mini may have a frame like this. Fingers crossed.

Here are a few spies. First, just two months ago, Kuo said that Apple was working on a new iPad mini, and in particular he said that it would have a 7.9-inch screen. Let’s hope he was talking about a different model or he was wrong.
There is also the possibility that Apple could go in the opposite direction – these devices could be made slightly larger to accommodate larger screens instead of smaller iPad covers. It doesn’t make too much money for the iPad, but it will be a disaster for the iPad Mini, because its portability and practicality make no sense at all.
Either way, it’s enough to wait before we see them. Kuo says the new iPad will arrive in the second half of 2020, and the iPad mini should arrive in the first half of 2021.
The iPad mini was last refreshed with Apple’s A12 bionic chip and pen, but its screen size and overall design remained the same.
In other news, Kuo added that Apple’s extended original headphones, which were delayed by at least a thousand times, could arrive as early as 2022. True, we must live.
