How to create a folder on iPhone

One of the great features launched in iOS 14 is the App Library. It clears the home screen by organizing almost all applications into pre-set sections. That way, you’ll be able to drag the most used apps to the first screen when you’ve put everything away – no more endless app pages. Just swipe one finger left to see all your grouped apps on a single screen.

However, what if you need to cram specific applications into a single folder? For example, you may need Microsoft Teams, Asana, Microsoft Word, and a few central hubs, but they’re scattered throughout the app library. Of course, you can drag these individually to the home screen but it’s just messy and you don’t want rubbish. You want a clean home screen and it comes in the folder here.

This guide shows you how to create a folder on iPhone. These guidelines include applications outside the application library so you can actually create a folder. We also show you how to create a new folder in File Apps

This guide is based on iOS 14.3.

Move an application to the home screen

Follow these instructions if the applications you want to drop into a folder are not already on the home screen. If they are, go to the next guide set.

Step 1: On the home screen, swipe one finger left to load the app library.

Step 2: Find the app you want to remove and long-press on it.

Step 3: A pop-up menu appears on the screen. Select Add if available on the home screen and iOS 14 will automatically add it to the next available application slot on the home screen. That’s it.

If you do not see that option (most apps do not have it) then continue to Step 4.

Step 4: Wait for the pop-up menu to disappear and put the iOS app on the home screen in edit mode. Remove the bouncy app as needed.

Step 5: Press the Home button to complete the Done button in the upper right corner of the phone without the Home button.

Create an app folder

With applications on your home screen, you can now group them together into standard folders.

Step 1: Long press on the application you want to add to a folder.

Wait for the pop-up menu to disappear. You’ll see the app jiggle in place with the “minus” icon in the upper left corner of the logo.

Step 2: Use a finger to drag it to the top of the second application.

After a few seconds, an open folder with the second application will appear on the screen.

Step 3: Drag the first app to the folder.

Step 4: Tap the folder label above to change the name if necessary. Typically, the iOS described above automatically generates a label based on the applications you put together.

Step 5: Tap outside the folder to return to the home screen.

Step :: Press the Home button to complete the Done button in the upper right corner of the phone without the Home button.

Add another app to the folder

These instructions assume that you have already added the app to the home screen.

Step 1: Long-press on the application you want to add to a folder.

Step 2: Tap the Edit Home screen in the pop-up menu or wait for the menu to disappear.

Step 3: The app zigzags in place with a minus icon in the upper left corner of its logo. Press and hold the app and drag it to the folder until the screen in the folder is full.

Step 4: Drag the app to the folder.

Step 5: Press the Home button to complete the Done button in the upper right corner of the phone without the Home button.

Delete an application folder

Sick folder on your home screen? Return their application to the application library

Step 1: Long press on the folder until the pop-up menu appears.

Step 2: Tap Delete Folder in the menu.

Step 3: A prompt will appear asking you to remove the app (s) inside the folder. Tap Remove from Home screen to continue.

Note: Removing an application from the folder and / or the home screen will not delete it from your application library.

Now that we have created a folder for the applications, let’s create a folder for the files.

Create a file folder

You cannot create any file folder on the home screen like on Mac. Instead, you create folders between file management applications. Here we use the native file application in iOS 14.

Step 1: Open the File application.

Step 2: Tap where you want to add a folder, such as My Phone or iCloud Drive.

Step 3: Tap the three-dot ellipse icon in the upper right corner.

Step 4: In the drop-down menu, tap New Folder Options.

Step 5: Use the on-screen keyboard to name the new folder.

Step :: Press the home button to complete the button in the upper right corner of the phone without the home button.

Delete a file folder

Step 1: Long-tap on the folder you want to delete.

Step 2: Select Delete in the pop-up menu.
