Google Nest teases ‘something special’ next week

On Thursday, Google officially unveiled its rumored Nest Speaker after the device was officially unveiled by a regulatory body. Google Nest came back today with another teaser for “Something Special” and it seemed unclear whether the two were related.

At 9am, PT, Twitter and Google Nest posted the following tweet with the video that came with it:

Take a deep breath and get ready. Something special is coming this Monday.

In this four-second long clip, comedian Fred Armisen features a long, white wig that could be outside the sketch comedy series Portlandia. I can’t quite reveal what I was doing, but we then jump into a side shot of the funny guy and see that he is sitting cross-legged on a stool in a meditation-esco pose that fits the “deep breath” aspect is a teaser.

People immediately jumped to the conclusion that the “special thing” in question was how the nest’s speaker happened recently. One-off hardware announcement is possible, but in the fall – it will probably surpass what could be announced. That said, speakers in the United States and Japan have received the necessary regulatory approvals for sales, while Google can always announce and post shipping later.

If no hardware announcement is seen on Monday, the software is another possibility. Given the nature of the teaser, Google Assistant and Nest devices can have a kind of relaxation / meditation feature, while a long shot is the Armisen Celebrity Assistant voice. John Legend left Isa Rake last year.
