Apple says iCloud and sign-in outages affect new device setups

Apple’s system status webpage indicates that the company has resolved an outage affecting the “iCloud Account and Sign In” services. Apple did not specify how widespread the disturbance was, but did say that the issue affected users 36 hours a day.

Various reports on Twitter have indicated that some Apple users were unable to activate the new device, with most complaints apparently centered on the Apple Watch. The issue came to the fore as users everywhere started unwrapping new Apple products on Christmas morning.

For Apple Watch users, one of the most common issues is a certificate error that will appear when setting up a new device with Family Setup. Some users have reported similar problems setting up new iPhones and homepods.

Nevertheless, after 36 hours of problems, Apple has said that they have solved these problems. The company simply stated: “Users may have encountered a problem with this service” and it “affected some users.”

Did you notice any other glitches during the installation of the new Apple device this holiday season? Apple says these issues have been resolved, so let us know in the comments if this is the case.
