Ansel Elgort responded to allegations of sexual harassment against him earlier this week.
The 26-year-old actor released a statement via his Instagram account on Saturday (June 20). The West Side Story star has denied that he insulted anyone.
He began, “I was upset to see social media posts about me circulating in the last 24 hours.”
“I can’t claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but the description of his events is not what happened,” Elgart added. “I have never insulted anyone and never will. The truth is that in 2014 in New York, when I was 20 years old, Gabby and I had a brief, legal and complete sensual relationship.
He admitted that he “did not handle the breakup well.” He explained that he had stopped responding to her messages, adding that his actions were “immature and cruel to anyone.”
He wrote, “I know that this delayed forgiveness does not make me forget my unacceptable behavior, when I disappear.”
Elgort concludes his post by reiterating that his past actions are not acceptable. He admitted, “When I looked back at my attitude, I was upset and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. “I’m really sorry I know I have to work to maintain the image, learn and grow in empathy.”
Gabby’s social media account was deleted after she came forward via Twitter on Friday (June 19).
