We often see new features and functions added to Facebook-owned WhatsApp beta updates, and recently we got a glimpse of the upcoming animated stickers very briefly.
We’re not entirely sure what the animated stickers are expected to be like by WhatsApp users, but we’ve seen them arrive on other third-party messaging platforms in the last few years. This makes WhatsApp one of the most notable missing for animated add-ons.
However, according to WWITINFO, the feature only appeared on beta version 2.20.194..7 for Android and 18.104.22.168 for iOS for a very short time. Although for them on Android, WhatsApp version 22.214.171.124 beta update quickly removed the option of sending animated stickers. Stuck with the version 126.96.36.199 update they should still retain the ability to send animated stickers.
If you skip updates, you can download and install third-party sticker packs and see them animated when sent. However, they will not animate unless you chat or send a direct message.
As WABetaInfo notes, the animated sticker does not loop when sent to any contact. However, these seem to loop when you look at them in the sticker selector. It is still unclear whether WhatsApp will provide a toggle on loop stickers in the future.
So with that in mind, it’s clear that WhatsApp is reading the appropriate support for future animated stickers but with this feature we will have to wait longer to get more future beta updates after such a brief event. Clearly, stickers are not necessarily important for the recent features we’ve seen for future builds of the messaging client, but one more welcome addition.
